When mat making is the business

Leocadie Mukamusoni making the mat for sale

Leocadie Mukamusoni, aged 50 years and a resident of Sitwe village, Rusagara cell, Gakenke sector in Gakenke district makes a living from making mats.

Looking down at her mat, Mukamusoni said: “it’s tiresome and wears your clothes out but I can’t stop making mats because I earn money and help my husband provide for the family.”

Mukamusoni adds that she makes three mats a week which she sells Rwf6000 each. She says it’s much money for her since she is illiterate and couldn’t work for it anywhere.

Mukamusoni confirms mat making completes her responsibilities in her home such as buying soap, salt, food and other small important things.
